The Suffield Photo Club will meet on Tuesday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Kent Memorial Library. This month's theme is " macro (close-up) photography.Ó The club covers all aspects of photography from beginners with new digital cameras to experienced photographers sharing their knowledge. The Suffield Historical Society will hold its annual Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, July 20, on the King House Museum lawn. Come anytime between 5:30-7 p.m. Bring a picnic supper and lawn chairs and enjoy ice cream on us. Musical entertainment will be provided by Paul Kulas. Our goal is to provide an old-fashioned community experience and an evening of relaxation and neighborly visiting. Rain date is Thursday, July 22.

Watercolor painting workshop with Betty Angell at the Old Meetinghouse in Granville from Aug. 2-6. This is a one-week workshop for beginning and advanced watercolor and drawing techniques. Shingle the Roof Band will be playing country, bluegrass and ragtime music on the Granville Green on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 6:30 p.m. In the case of rain, the concert will be held inside the Old Meetinghouse.

 

The 4th annual ÒWheels & WhiskersÓ car show to benefit the Westfield Homeless Cat Project is slated for Sunday, Aug. 8, at Mestek Field, 260 Elm St., Westfield, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain date is Aug. 29. Free admission for spectators; $10 donation per entered car. Please bring a can of cat food to donate.

 

Dr. Edmund Sullivan will speak at Kent Memorial Library on the subject of book collecting on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. A former Suffield resident, Sullivan is professor emeritus at the University of Hartford, and the author of many books and articles about political Americana. HenriettaÕs Thrift Shop, located at Southwick Congregational Church, 488 College Highway, is looking for gently used household goods. When you are cleaning out your closets, consider donating your unwanted items rather than just throwing them away. The shop is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
